Finding an affirming therapist can make all the difference.
Finding one who actually gets what it means to be queer — who understands the specific weight of navigating identity, family, community, and the world in a queer or trans body — is harder.
We’re a queer-owned practice that primarily serves queer, trans, and gender expansive creatives.
New Material is a queer-led practice based in Brooklyn. We work with queer adults and creatives who are done just surviving and ready to bring themselves more fully into the world.
We are trauma-informed and identity-affirming at every level — not as an add-on, but as the foundation of everything we do. Our therapists are trained in the most effective evidence-based modalities and bring genuine lived experience to this work.
We see clients in person in Brooklyn and online throughout New York State.
Our therapists bring their full selves to this work — because we believe healing happens in relationship, and that relationship has to be real.
Is this you?
You've been to therapists who were "accepting" but still made you explain yourself, educate them, or minimize parts of your identity to make the work feel safe
You carry the kind of stress that comes from living in a world not built for you — and you're tired of therapists who treat that as a side note
You're dealing with trauma, OCD, anxiety, or depression that is deeply tangled up with your identity, your body, or your history
You want a therapist who understands that being queer or trans isn't the problem — and that sometimes it's exactly the lens through which everything else needs to be understood
You're not just looking for someone who won't cause harm. You want someone who will actually help you thrive
How we work
We offer trauma-informed, experiential therapy that takes your whole identity seriously. Our therapists are trained in IFS, EMDR, ERP, and ACT — and we bring all of these tools to bear on the specific, complex ways that queer and trans people carry stress, trauma, and fear in their bodies and relationships.
What we specialize in
Complex trauma and CPTSD — including the particular wounds that come from family rejection, religious trauma, medical trauma, and growing up queer in spaces that weren't safe.
OCD and anxiety — with a queer-affirming lens that understands how intrusive thoughts, identity, and shame can become deeply entangled. We use ACT-informed ERP that is values-based, flexible, and built around who you actually are.
Identity and transition — whether you're navigating gender transition, coming out, relationship structures, or simply trying to understand yourself more fully, we meet you where you are without assumptions.
Relational healing — we believe that queer people deserve not just safety in therapy, but genuine connection. Our approach is relational and experiential, not just clinical.
